Originally this directory was done for Film Theory at About.com, but there was too much work for an editor (like collecting links). In fact, I resigned from all editorial positions to work on my own pages.
First, so many of those "dot.coms" went out off business (good), because there was nothing but the hot air (and a webmaster like) has to clearn the webpages from their links and dead graphics. They knew very little about the business of the web (and didn't listen to people who work for them for free). They didn't understand the nature of the Internet (read Webman's Dairy). I'm not an expert on webbing, but, nevertheless, I understand that nobody could make money from nothing -- you have to offer a unique service, product and etc. What did they think? Of course, the window shopping is free -- so what? ...
Well, please, don't complain about the dead links on the Mining Film pages (I think that the technology should and could do it -- the cleaning). But if the link work, most likely this website will stay there for a long time; somebody behind it survive the bubble period.
So, now I link myself to... myself -- I double the fraffic! Not through the outer links, but through an organization of my own web. In Film we call it "editing" -- that's why I said it's good that the webpage of no quality vanished.
